VetCalc provides veterinary calculators, clinical scores, reference tools and educational resources intended to support veterinary professionals, students, researchers and other animal-health professionals.
By accessing or using VetCalc, you acknowledge and agree to the information and limitations set out on this page.
1. Clinical decision-support only
VetCalc is a clinical decision-support and educational platform. Its calculators, formulas, scores, reference materials, explanatory content and other tools are designed to assist appropriately qualified users.
VetCalc does not replace:
- professional veterinary judgement;
- a clinical examination;
- diagnostic testing;
- consultation with an appropriately qualified professional;
- applicable medicines guidance;
- local practice protocols;
- regulatory requirements;
- current clinical guidelines; or
- consideration of the individual animal, herd, flock or population.
Veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses remain personally accountable for their professional decisions and actions. RCVS guidance states that veterinary professionals must provide appropriate and adequate care and be able to justify their clinical decisions.
Users must independently confirm that the selected calculator, formula, unit, input, result and interpretation are appropriate for the circumstances in which the tool is being used.
2. Not veterinary advice to animal owners
VetCalc does not provide individual veterinary advice to animal owners and does not establish a veterinarian-client-patient relationship.
The platform must not be used by members of the public to diagnose, treat, medicate or manage an animal without professional veterinary involvement.
Animal owners who are concerned about an animal should contact a veterinary practice directly. In an emergency, they should seek urgent veterinary assistance without waiting for information from VetCalc.
3. Professional eligibility and scope of practice
Certain VetCalc features may be designed primarily for veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses, technicians, students or other animal-health professionals.
Users are responsible for ensuring that they:
- have the knowledge, qualifications and authority required to use a tool;
- act within their professional scope of practice;
- comply with applicable professional codes and legislation;
- obtain appropriate supervision where required;
- follow prescribing, dispensing and medicines-control requirements; and
- maintain appropriate clinical records and informed consent.
Access to a tool does not confirm that a user is qualified, licensed or authorised to use it in practice.
Account or professional-registration verification, where offered, is an identity and credential-checking feature only. It is not an endorsement of a user’s competence, fitness to practise or professional standing.
4. Accuracy and limitations
We aim to provide accurate, clearly presented and evidence-informed tools. However, veterinary medicine develops continuously, and source publications, clinical guidance, drug information, regulatory requirements and accepted practices may change.
VetCalc does not guarantee that:
- every tool is complete, current or suitable for every species or setting;
- a calculator is free from programming, transcription or display errors;
- a result will be clinically appropriate in every case;
- reference ranges apply to every laboratory, analyser, breed, age group or population;
- drug doses or treatment information apply to every patient;
- external references remain available or unchanged; or
- the platform will always be uninterrupted or error-free.
Users should verify important results against the original source, current professional guidance, relevant product literature and locally approved protocols before acting on them.
Where a calculated result appears inconsistent with the clinical picture, the result should not be relied upon until the inputs, units, formula and source have been checked.
5. Species, breed and population differences
Veterinary calculations may vary according to species, breed, size, age, physiological state, production system, clinical condition, laboratory method and geographic region.
A calculation developed for one species or population may not be valid for another. Users must confirm that a tool is intended for the animal or population being assessed.
The inclusion of a species, drug, disease or clinical scenario does not mean that every possible exception, contraindication or variation has been covered.
6. Medicines and dosage information
Any medicine, dose, infusion, dilution or treatment-related information provided through VetCalc is intended only as professional decision support.
Before prescribing, supplying, administering or recommending a medicine, users must independently check:
- the correct patient and species;
- body weight and units;
- indication;
- dose and dosing interval;
- route of administration;
- concentration and formulation;
- maximum dose;
- contraindications;
- interactions;
- adverse effects;
- withdrawal periods;
- legal prescribing requirements;
- relevant cascade or exceptional-use provisions;
- current product literature; and
- local antimicrobial and medicines policies.
VetCalc does not prescribe medicines and does not authorise any particular treatment.
7. Emergencies and time-critical care
VetCalc must not delay emergency assessment, stabilisation, referral or treatment.
In urgent or life-threatening situations, users should follow established emergency procedures and seek appropriate senior, specialist or referral support where necessary.
The availability or unavailability of a VetCalc tool must never determine whether emergency care is provided.
8. Saved calculations and records
VetCalc may allow registered users to save calculations, favourites, progress or recent activity.
Saved information is provided for convenience and must not be treated as a complete clinical record unless the user’s organisation has expressly approved that use.
Users remain responsible for:
- maintaining legally and professionally appropriate clinical records;
- confirming that saved results remain applicable;
- preventing unauthorised access;
- avoiding unnecessary entry of identifiable client or animal information; and
- transferring relevant information into the authorised clinical record system.
Users should not enter confidential, identifiable or sensitive information unless the relevant feature expressly requests it and its use is covered by VetCalc’s Privacy Policy.
9. Artificial intelligence and generated content
Where VetCalc uses or displays content created, assisted, summarised or organised using artificial intelligence, that content remains subject to professional review.
AI-assisted content may contain omissions, outdated information or errors. It must not be accepted as authoritative solely because it appears detailed or confident.
Users must verify AI-assisted material against appropriate primary sources, current guidance and professional judgement.

Learn More pages, information cards, articles, references and explanatory material are provided for education and general professional information.
They are not intended to reproduce every detail of the cited evidence or substitute for reading the original publication.
References are provided to support transparency and further reading. Their inclusion does not imply that VetCalc endorses every statement, commercial product or external service contained within them.
Evidence-based veterinary medicine is intended to support, rather than replace, clinical decision-making.
11. Third-party websites and services
VetCalc may link to third-party publications, regulators, journals, databases, guidelines, advertisers, software or other external services.
We do not control third-party websites and are not responsible for their:
- accuracy;
- availability;
- security;
- privacy practices;
- content;
- terms;
- products; or
- services.
A link does not necessarily constitute endorsement.
Users access third-party services at their own discretion and should review the applicable terms and privacy information.
12. Advertising and sponsored content
VetCalc may display advertising, sponsorship or promoted content.
Advertising is intended to be visually distinguishable from independent calculator and educational content. The appearance of an advertisement does not mean that VetCalc endorses the advertiser, product, medicine, claim or service.
Advertisers do not control the calculation methodology or clinical result of VetCalc tools unless a tool is expressly identified as sponsored or produced in collaboration with another organisation.
Veterinary professionals should identify and manage relevant conflicts of interest and distinguish established facts from promotional or opinion-based statements.
13. User accounts and security
Users are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of their account credentials and for all activity conducted through their account.
Users must not:
- share login credentials with unauthorised persons;
- impersonate another professional;
- submit false registration information;
- attempt to bypass access controls;
- interfere with the platform;
- introduce malicious code;
- scrape or systematically extract content without permission; or
- use VetCalc unlawfully.
We may suspend or restrict access where we reasonably believe an account is being misused, presents a security risk or breaches applicable terms.
14. Intellectual property
Unless otherwise stated, the VetCalc name, website design, software, database structure, original explanatory content, graphics and branding are owned by or licensed to the operator of VetCalc.
Users may use calculator results and brief excerpts for legitimate clinical, educational and personal professional purposes.
Users must not, without prior written permission:
- reproduce substantial parts of the website;
- republish VetCalc calculators as their own;
- copy or redistribute the platform’s software;
- create a competing database from VetCalc content;
- remove copyright or attribution notices; or
- use VetCalc branding in a way that implies endorsement or partnership.
Underlying clinical formulas, published scores and source materials may be owned by their respective authors or rights holders and may be subject to separate permissions.
15. Availability and changes
We may update, correct, replace, restrict or withdraw any tool or feature at any time.
We may also change calculation methods where evidence, guidance or safety considerations require it.
Users should not assume that a previously saved or printed result was generated using the current version of a calculator.
Where practical, VetCalc may display a version number, source reference or last-reviewed date to help users assess currency.
16. Reporting errors
Users are encouraged to report suspected errors, unclear wording, broken links or safety concerns.
Reports should include, where possible:
- the calculator or page name;
- the URL;
- the values entered;
- the result received;
- the expected result;
- the source used for comparison; and
- a description of the concern.

17. Limitation of liability
Nothing in this disclaimer excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability that cannot legally be excluded for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.
Subject to those limitations, VetCalc is provided on an “as available” basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator of VetCalc will not be liable for losses arising solely from:
- reliance on a calculator without appropriate professional verification;
- incorrect or incomplete user inputs;
- selection of an unsuitable tool;
- use outside the intended species, population or clinical context;
- failure to consult current source material or applicable guidance;
- temporary service interruption;
- third-party content or services; or
- unauthorised access caused by a user’s failure to protect account credentials.
Any limitation or exclusion of liability must remain fair and legally reasonable. UK law restricts attempts to exclude liability for negligence and prohibits exclusion of liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
18. Privacy and personal information
Use of personal information through VetCalc is governed by the VetCalc Privacy Policy.
The Privacy Policy should explain, among other things:
- what personal information is collected;
- why it is used;
- the lawful basis for processing;
- how long it is retained;
- who it may be shared with;
- international transfers, where relevant;
- user rights; and
- how to make a complaint.
UK GDPR transparency requirements generally require privacy information to be clear and easily accessible when personal data is collected.
19. Cookies and analytics
VetCalc may use essential cookies to operate accounts, security features and user preferences.
Optional analytics, advertising or personalisation technologies should be used in accordance with the VetCalc Cookies Policy and the user’s consent choices where consent is required.
Users can review or change their cookie preferences through the website’s cookie settings.
20. International use
VetCalc may be accessible internationally, but veterinary regulation, medicines law, professional titles, licensing requirements and clinical guidance vary between jurisdictions.
Users are responsible for complying with the laws, professional standards and regulatory requirements that apply where they practise.
A tool’s availability in a particular country does not mean that it has been approved by that country’s regulator.
21. Governing law
Unless mandatory local law requires otherwise, this disclaimer and disputes relating to the use of VetCalc are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
The courts of England and Wales will have jurisdiction, subject to any rights that users may have under mandatory consumer law in their country of residence.
